Kids learn about birds at RiverQuarium's discovery days

Kids got to learn more about different species of birds Sunday at the Flint RiverQuarium.

It's all part of their Discovery Days event. Families enjoyed several fun activities honoring National Bird Day. Children made edible nests, dressed up in bird costumes, and learned more about different types of birds. Organizers say these activities are a great way to educate kids about nature.

There's a lot of different protection on the bird species that are here in our area. So we're trying to get out the awareness. Of course it goes great with our aviary, because we do have a large bird enclosure that we have a lot of native birds in. So we can bring awareness to the public about birds," said Melissa Martin.

The RiverQuarium hosts "Discovery Days" every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month from 2 - 4 p.m.
