ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Internal Revenue Service warns Georgians that scammers are continuing to call people, threatening and intimidating taxpayers into giving up their financial information.

The IRS warns that these scammers are able to manipulate your phone's caller ID feature, and show the call is coming from somewhere else, like the IRS.

They are also able to call back and have that caller ID label say it is from your local law enforcement agency.

These callers claim the victim owes tax money, and will be arrested if they don't give financial information immediately.

The IRS says beware, they do not contact people by phone or email.

"We don't operate that way," said IRS Spokesman Mark Green. "[In] most cases we will send you out mail, and we will have that type of relationship with you. But the most important thing to remember, the scams are out here."

The IRS said these scammers are specifically targeting immigrants, and warn you not to fall victim.

If you get a threatening call claiming to be from the IRS, hang up.
