VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

The Martin Luther King Commemoration Association Committee in Valdosta is holding MLK celebration events this coming Sunday and Monday.

On Sunday, the committee will have a church service at 3 p.m. at the St. Paul AME Church at 419 S. Ashley Street in Valdosta.

On Monday, children will perform songs and dances at Mathis City Auditorium starting at 11. Afterwards, the committee will host a dinner at the auditorium.

"On Sunday, we'll have a guest speaker, Elder Edward Mike," said Samuel Clemons, member of the Martin Luther King Commemoration Association Committee. "That's when we have our church service and that's when we really experience and talk about Dr. King and his celebrations and all of his accomplishments."

Gloria Butler is also a member of the committee and said these events are key to continuing Dr. King's legacy.

"It is very, very important. Because we look at this generation, and if we do not instill it in them, our future is lost. So, we need them to carry on the legacy," Butler pointed out.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day is this coming Monday, January 20th. Clemons is asking everyone who comes to the event at Mathis City Auditorium to bring a canned food item to donate to the committee's food drive.
