Testimony begins in Albany Police Officer lawsuit

Posted: Updated:
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Testimony began Wednesday morning in an Albany Police officer's racial discrimination federal lawsuit.

A-P-D Chief John Proctor was the first witness.

Albany Police Captain Brian Lavoie sued, saying he was passed over for a promotion in 2009 in favor of several less-qualified and less-experienced African American candidates.

Proctor was questioned about the city's promotion policy and standard operating procedures.

The jury trial is expected to last the rest of the week.
