VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

The search continues tonight for a new Valdosta Fire Chief.

Valdosta's City Manager, along with the Albany Fire Chief and five other fire chiefs from the South Georgia area are preparing to interview six candidates on Thursday in Valdosta.

The six candidates have been narrowed down from the original list of 60 that was selected when the city began advertising for the position last Fall.

The City Manager Larry Hanson says the process the city goes through to hire a new chief is lengthy, but important.

"We've narrowed that list now down to six. Those six are coming in this week for assessments by the six fire chiefs who are assisting us and interviews with myself," explained Hanson.

"Those will take place tomorrow...We want the best that we can find. The best professional, and one that fits our community, our department and our organization," Hanson continued.

Hanson hopes to have a new fire chief selected and on the job by March.
