SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA) -

A Shreveport city council member's effort to repeal the newly-passed fairness ordinance is on hold, at least for now.

Shortly before the council voted 6-to-1 in favor of the "Be Fair Shreveport" ordinance back on December 10, Councilman Ron Webb said, "the bible tells you homosexuals is an abomination." Webb added that he does not socialize with homosexuals and that the ordinance is a bad piece of legislation.

The ordinance bans discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.

Soon after, Webb proposed a repeal of the ordinance. At Tuesday's meeting, local and state advocates turned out in force to speak out against the proposal. After an hour of public comment, Webb moved to withdraw it.

The proposed repeal can be brought back to the table for a potential vote at any time, however.
