ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

The Albany Area Chapter of Blacks in Government and Marine Corps Logistics Base Albany held a Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. observance at the Base Chapel, Tuesday.

The keynote speaker was Albany native Sandra Webb, who marched with the Albany Civil Rights Movement, and spent time in the Camilla city jail with 66 other girls in 1962.

While in jail she and the other girls were visited by Dr king. She has written a book detailing her experience called Beneath the Bars of Justice.

Webb is a graduate of Monroe High School and Albany State University.  She served as an executive with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development before retiring.

Webb recalls the memory of that week in July 1962, which she was arrested for participating in the Albany Movement's marches that ultimately helped shape the American civil rights movement.
