Tech's Kyser named LSWA Player of the Week

RUSTON, LA (KSLA/Louisiana Tech Sports Information) -

For the second time this season, Louisiana Tech's Michale Kyser has been named the LSWA Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending on Sunday, Jan. 12 as determined in voting by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association.

It is the second straight week and the third time total that a Bulldog has earned this award.

Prior to this season he had registered only one double-double in two seasons.  In the first two conference games, he managed to register back-to-back double-doubles in convincing wins over Florida Atlantic (17 points and 12 rebounds) and FIU (11 points and 11 rebounds).

The 17 points for the Lancaster, Texas native versus FAU was a career-high and a game-high.

As his offensive numbers have continued to climb, his shot-blocking has been elite as always.  He now has 68 total rejections which is the second most in the country after swatting away seven shots combined and altering several others.

Kyser was an anchor on the defense that held the two opponents to an average of 57.5 points.  The 51 total points by the Panthers was a season-low.

The Bulldogs continue Conference USA play this Thursday, Jan. 16 as they travel to take on Tulane at 8 p.m. in a game being televised on Cox Sports.
