VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Former NFL player Robert Baker III has been sentenced to 6 years and 3 months in prison for possession with intent to distribute heroin and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

In a plea agreement, he admitted he was stopped by Lowndes County Sheriff's officials on January 20, 2013 on Georgia Highway 401 for a traffic violation.

A search of his car revealed 59.5 grams of heroin and a Smith and Wesson 9mm semi-automatic pistol. He admitted that he had the heroin for distribution to authorities.

According to a federal court release, Baker pleaded guilty to the charges on October 1, 2013.
