Hundreds attend Matt Jernigan Funeral in Damascus

Today hundreds of family and friends gathered at the Southwest Georgia Academy's Baseball Field in Damascus for the funeral of Matt Jernigan.

Jernigan's  football jersey was displayed on his casket, which was carried by his coaches.

Jernigan died after being thrown from a  boat while he and two of his friends were duck hunting in south Georgia.

"This is a time of celebration for his life and to have the fun music playing,  it's a time of celebration and its good to be out here on school campus and everyone celebrate together.," says Headmaster Matt Dalrymple.

"He was an all around athlete. just a good guy to be around. You just wish there was more people like him in the world," says classmate Tanner Powell.

His classmates hope to build a monument in honor of Jernigan to place on the school's baseball field.
