ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Dougherty County Police are searching for a man caught on camera robbing a gas station with a shotgun Thursday night.  It follows two similar robberies this week in South Georgia.

Investigators are reviewing the tapes of the Kangaroo Express on S. Mock Rd, but they say the crime could be linked to those robberies in Moultrie Wednesday.  The clerk working off camera had his world thrown upside down when a masked man with a gun walked toward the counter.

"About 9:45 last night, a black male entered the store, forced the employees away from the cash register," said Sgt. Ted Wertz, Dougherty County Police Department.

Surveillance footage shows the man backing the employee into a corner with his shotgun.  He then gets into the register and grabs some money.

"Last night at the scene they estimated somewhere in the vicinity of $75, but we're still not sure," Wertz said.

Once he has the cash, he scoots around the corner and rushes out the door.

"We have some leads that we're following but that's all we can say now," said Wertz.

Investigators are now studying security footage for answers.  "Black male, wearing shorts...black shorts and a hoodie.  And one red glove," the sergeant said.

They're working with different agencies to see if the crimes are linked to other robberies.  "We've been in contact with Moultrie Police Department and we're investigating the possibility," he said.  "They've had some shotgun robberies and we're investigating the possibility that they may be connected."

We showed another video Thursday of two men robbing the Chevron Gas station in Moultrie about 3:40 Wednesday morning.  About five and a half hours later, those same two men appear to have robbed another Moultrie gas station a few miles away.

But investigators say there are still a lot of unknowns.  "It's very fresh.  So we're just...really just running with it right now," said Wertz.  He said the clerk made the right decision not to fight back.

"It's better just to let them do what they need to do and let them leave.  If you don't know what you're doing, you can get yourself in real trouble," Wertz said.

Though the robber got some cash, officers say they're glad no one was hurt.  Investigators said store owners should keep an eye out for anyone lurking around the property   They could be casing the store.  You should report that right away.

If you have any information that could help investigators identify that robber, you're asked to call Crime Stoppers at 229-436-TIPS.
