Quail Albany celebrity hunt in two weeks

DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) -

The Quail Albany Celebrity Conservation Hunt will be in two weeks,  the 28th year in a row a celebrity hunt has been held in South Georgia to promote the quail hunting industry.

The Hunt will begin Wednesday January 22nd and run through January 25th. For the first time there will be a skeet shooting tournament, plus a golf tournament to honor veterans and a concert headlined by country artist Mark Wills. Hunters will fan out onto 24 South Georgia properties. The event is no longer tied to any national organization, but South Georgia organizers say it is too important to the economy to let die.

Quail Albany President Bill Bowles said "The great news is that this event has kept itself in our community. It's too important for us not to keep this event in our community."

Two years ago when Quail Unlimited folded, the Albany organization was left with a huge debt. Bowles said they have cut that debt down to only two creditors, and they believe the successful hunt this year will enable them to pay off all debts, and then donate 50 percent of their profits to South Georgia conservation charities.
