IRS Warns of Pervasive Scammers

Mark Green I-R-S Spokesman Mark Green I-R-S Spokesman

As tax season approaches, tax scammers are getting active.

They even targeted us.

WALB received a scam e-mail this morning. It had a believable user name making it seem like it was from the I-R-S.

But that is not the case and an I-R-S spokesman wants to make it clear the tax agency won't contact you electronically asking for your personal information.

"The most important thing to remember is that the IRS does not, I repeat, does not initiate contact with tax payers by: email, texts, social media, electronic communications, or telephone to request personal or financial information," said Mark Green IRS Spokesman.

If you do receive an email that claims to be from the IRS, delete it immediately and call the IRS at their toll free number at 1-800-908-4490.
