Darton Foundation supports audit, distances itself from college

Posted: Updated:

The Darton State College Foundation has carefully made a statement regarding the Board of Regents audit report of the school, distancing themselves from the college in a reminder that they are a separate entity.

The Thursday statement from Chairman Glenn Tennyson details what foundation officials call "unfettered transparency" through the quick adoption of policies by the Board of Regents.

The statement comes after Darton State College leaders say they are working to address major financial and record-keeping problems uncovered by the state audit.

Auditors say Darton may have handed out nearly $900,000 in federal financial aid to students who didn't qualify because the college didn't properly make sure students were eligible.

Former Darton President Peter Sireno was forced to resign shortly after the audit was conducted.
