Earning a teaching certificate in Georgia is becoming tougher

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

It's about to get tougher to earn a certificate to teach in Georgia. Wednesday, The Professional Standards Commission briefed the board of regents on new rules that will require teachers to pass tests to demonstrate an understanding of content knowledge and classroom teaching.

The University System will also make changes aimed at making sure education majors show they are effective in the classroom.

Dougherty County Interim School Superintendent Dr. David Mosely appreciates the new focus on teacher quality.

"I think those of us are all for higher standards, higher expectations, more productivity all of the things that go into properly educating a child, we subscribe to that," said Mosely.

The Dougherty County System also recently implemented changes to recruit and retain better teachers.
