Pipes burst at nursing home due to cold

Posted: Updated:
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Firefighters were called to Palmyra Nursing Home around 11 a.m. after a sprinkler pipe burst.

No patient rooms were affected and no one was hurt, but water did leak into a media room.

Fire officials say incidents like this are an unfortunate side effect of extreme cold temperatures.

"You can try to leave your spickets outside on so they can drip a little bit. But this type of weather, we haven't seen it in a while," said Albany Fire Department Battalion Chief Matthew Jefferson.

A sprinkler repair company was brought in to fix the problem.
