WG&L won't cut off electricity during cold snap

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany Water Gas and Light wants you to know, if you haven't paid your bill, they won't cut off your electricity during this cold snap.     

State law actually mandates that utility companies not shut off power on days when the temperature drops below freezing.     

But cutoffs can resume when the weather warms up, so WG&L officials remind customers to make catching up a priority.   WG&L has a similar summer time policy, halting cutoffs when temperatures reach 100 degrees.

    A mother and son escaped from a house in Northwest Albany after it went up in flames Tuesday afternoon.  Crews from Albany Fire Department and Dougherty County EMS helped put out the fire in the 1200 Block of 10th Avenue, just off North Slappey Boulevard.
