ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Dougherty County residents will soon have a new place to hold weddings and reunions.

Monday, commissioners unanimously approved more than $700,000 for a multi-purpose facility at Robert Cross Park.

Leaders say the 4,500 square foot building will be ideal for all kinds of social events and could help stimulate development in the southern part of the county.

"This building just kind of completes the process.  We're kind of missing that all important facility that allows us to do the kind of things that we're now going to be able to do in that building,"   said Dougherty County Commissioner John Hayes.

Hayes says the new facility will complement recent developments in the industrial park and help draw retail to the area.

Work is expected to begin within the next 60 days, and is scheduled to be finished in early August.
