Georgia holiday fatalities decrease

SYLVESTER, GA (WALB) -

The holidays were safer on Georgia roads than last year. Five people died in crashes over the New Year's period this week, compared to seven last year.     

26 people were killed on Georgia roads last Christmas.This season, the number was zero.      The Sylvester Police chief says he's thankful no serious crashes occurred in his city.    

"It's good to know that people are paying attention to what they are doing, we take traffic seriously in Sylvester," said Robert Jennings, Chief of Police.     

Chief Jennings says they haven't had a fatal holiday wreck in several years.
