BROOKS COUNTY, GA (WALB) -

GBI Investigators say 25 year old Quinton Childs got into an altercation at a gathering of family and friends Tuesday night at a home off of Pleasant Hill Church Road just outside of Pavo.

Childs left the home around 1:30 a.m. on Wednesday morning, and that's when things turned deadly.

"The Brooks County Sheriff's Department was dispatched to a residence in Pavo, Georgia, where two persons had been struck by a vehicle," said Bahan Rich, Assistant Special Agent in Charge for the Thomasville GBI. "Upon arrival, they discovered that Hubert Danny Sutton had been killed as a result of being struck by the vehicle."

Rich added that the investigation is still on going, but he does believe alcohol played a role in all of this.

"We do believe alcohol was a factor," said Rich.

27 year old Matthew Sutton, Hubert Sutton's son, was also run over by Childs and was taken to Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville for his injuries.

"Matthew Sutton was also injured. He was taken to Archbold Memorial Hospital to receive treatment...his injuries are not life threatening, that's the best way to put it right now," Rich commented.

Childs now faces charges of aggravated assault and felony murder, but no amount of time in prison will ever bring back the life he's accused of taking.

Here is the news release from the Thomasville GBI regarding the hit and run:

On Wednesday, January 1, 2014 the Georgia Bureau Investigation (GBI) office in Thomasville, GA was requested to assist the Brooks County Sheriff's office with an investigation into the death of HUBERT DANIEL "Danny" SUTTON, JR., age 61.

SUTTON, JR. was struck by a vehicle driven by QUINTON ANTONIO CHILDS, age 25, at the residence located at 1289 Sutton Circle, Pavo, Brooks County, GA. Also struck in the incident was MATTHEW SUTTON, age 27, son of HUBERT SUTTON, JR.

At approximately 1:24 a.m. the Brooks County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to the residence on Sutton Circle.  Witnesses reported there had been an altercation between SUTTON, JR. and CHILDS before CHILDS left the residence and struck the two victims with the car CHILDS was driving.

HUBERT SUTTON, JR. was pronounced dead at the scene.  An autopsy will be performed by the GBI Crime Lab. MATTHEW SUTTON was transported to Archbold Memorial Hospital in Thomasville for treatment.

CHILDS was arrested by the Brooks County Sheriff's Office shortly after the incident in Morven. CHILDS is charged with Aggravated Assault and Felony Murder.  CHILDS is being held in the Brooks County Jail.
