AMERICUS, GA (WALB) -

A new bundle of joy graced one Americus family this New Year's Day.

First time parents Rebecca Young and Jonathan Tam welcomed a little girl into southwest Georgia just a few hours into 2014.  6 lb. 15 oz. Kate Suzanna Tam was born at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center a little after 2am.

Hospital staff said they weren't sure if they'd see a New Year's baby this time around.

"There have been a large amount of babies born over the last few days.  So I called yesterday and found out we had a full house.  So I was wondering if they came a day early," said Phoebe Marketing Director Marcus Johnson.

Johnson said it's not unusual to see babies born on New Year's Day.

The mother said she was in labor for about 19 hours.  Now she and the dad plan to take Kate home for a little rest once they get out of the hospital.
