Report: Motel room burglarized during New Year's celebrations

Posted: Updated:

MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A man celebrating New Year's Eve in the Grand Strand may be going home without the valuables stolen from his hotel room during the night, according to a Myrtle Beach Police report.

The man left his South Ocean Boulevard motel room around 11:30 p.m. on New Year's Eve to ring in the new year. When he returned at 3:30 a.m. the next morning his PlayStation, PlayStation games and laptop were gone. All the missing items were valued at $1,060.

When police inspected the motel room, they found no signs that someone broke in, but the man told them he had trouble with the electronic lock, which sometimes shorted out and caused the door to this room to open on its own.
