DAWSON, GA (WALB) -

Dozens of citizens along with the mayor came out to city hall, to watch two new members be sworn into the city council and security was right by Mayor Wright's side.

"Everything was fine, glad to see so many people come out, glad it was not any problems," said Sandra Bowen's, event attendee.

Monday afternoon city hall was packed with family, friends, and citizens of Dawson, all watching Ira Dean Pittman and Mariquis Benton get sworn in as new city council members.

Dozens of these folks as well as Mayor Wright's volunteer security officers were extremely vigilant making sure everything went smooth.

"Oh yes, I have a couple of officers here with me, they are off duty and working voluntarily," said Christopher Wright, Mayor of Dawson.

"He gets the protection 24/7 as often as I can, when I'm on patrol when I'm on duty, get it when I'm off duty" said Anthony Wright, Mayor Wright's security officer.

Anthony Wright works for the Dawson Police Department, he says  all he wants to do is make sure their mayor is safe.

"I felt it's in my heart, I just felt like it was the right thing to do, he needed protection, and from day one, we've all been here from day one," said Anthony Wright.

Mayor Wright says Monday was a day to focus on the positive of inaugurating two new members to the city council, and says he is looking forward to working with them over the next couple of years.

"It feels good after hearing what they said, they said they will be bringing new items to the table, hopefully they will bring a positive aspect and hopefully they will be of servitude   to the commonwealth of Dawson Georgia,"said Wright.

Newly sworn in councilman Mariquis Benton says he is looking forward to serving beside Mayor Wright.

"It feels good, it's very liberating knowing that I'm in a position where I can do for my city, I'm here for their concerns," said Mariquis Benton.

Council member elect George Wilson of Ward four was suppose to be sworn in along with Mariquis Benton and Ira Dean Pittman, but he did not show up.
