CRISP COUNTY, GA (WALB) -

Two counties in Georgia have Child Abduction Response Teams, Floyd County in North Georgia, and Crisp County in South Georgia.

At anytime, one of these cars on busy I-75 in Crisp County could have an abducted child inside. It's happened twice in the last week right here in South Georgia.

"If we have a missing or abducted child that CART team can be activated and roughly about an hour or two we can have several hundred people on the ground actively looking for that child," said Sgt. Ben Bray.

Sunday night, six year old Onnika Fisher of Jacksonville, Florida was found safe after police stopped her mother in Perry. Just last week two Atlanta men were caught passing through Lowndes County with an abducted child. In both cases, Levi's calls were activated.

"When the officer gets on scene, they assess the situation and by what they gain on scene they make a determination at that point to notify other investigators or other deputies," said Bray.

A Levi's call is issued through the GBI.  Sgt. Bray says there are several requirements a Levi's call must meet before being issued.

"Law Enforcement officials there on scene have to have reasonable beliefs that a child has been abducted and the child is in imminent danger," said Bray.

In 2011, Investigators in the Crisp County Sheriff's office established their Child Abduction Response Team made of up 12 agencies in the county. Using this call log and a picture the team uses a free non-profit organization out of Florida that sends out phone calls and fliers of the missing person to law enforcement and the public in their area.

"We have a County Facebook page that we can also upload pictures, we can put the information out to everybody that likes our Sheriff's office Facebook page," said Bray.

The Child abduction response team meets several times a year after a child is missing to discuss how they can be more prepared for the next time. The Crisp County Sheriff's Office says their last intense search for a missing child was in August of this year. That child was recovered and returned home. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children says more than 200,000 children are abducted by parents in the United States every year.
