Sen. Chambliss: Health care system drives up consumer costs

Posted: Updated:

Senator Saxby Chambliss says the nation's health care program should be left to the private sector to manage.

He says the government has no business trying to run the health care system and it's driving up costs to taxpayers.

The Senator says now that the healthcare website works and people are signing up, they're discovering just how expensive it's going to be.

"What's now going to happen is exactly what happened to my daughter the other day," said Chambliss. "Leah is a mother of three children, so they have a family of five. They're healthy. Their insurance premium has been less than $500 month with a $2,000 deductible. She got her bill the other day and her premium is going to $1,500 a month, and the deductible is being raised to $5,000. So that's what people now are going to start finding out that this is a very, very expensive program and they are not going to get the same delivery of health care that had under their other policy."

Senators Chambliss says he hopes Congressional leaders will be able to make some adjustments to the health care act to lessen the negative impact on Americans.

That, and the new farm bill, are top items on his agenda when Congress reconvenes in January.
