High pressure builds into the new year

Posted: Updated:
GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

High pressure will slowly build behind the cold front as temperatures dip into the 30s overnight. Monday will start things off with mostly cloudy skies with a slight chance of rain/snow flurries early in the day for the mountains along the Tennessee border.

A flood warning will remain in effect until Tuesday afternoon for Seluda River in Greenwood and Newberry as waters are expected to crest Monday morning.

Temperatures on Monday will peak in the mid-50s across the upstate and mid-40s in the Mountains. Winds will be relatively light between 5 and 10 mph. Monday night will usher in a cold night with lows in the mid-30s and upper 20s.

Skies will open up on Tuesday with temperatures identical to Monday's temperatures. New Year's Eve will be celebrated under mostly clear skies and night time lows in the lower 30s and lower 20s.
