ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany city leaders say recycling your Christmas tree is the best way to get rid of it.

Judy Bowles with "Keep Albany Dougherty Beautiful" says real trees should be placed by your trash cans to be picked up by Public Works and taken to a landfill. Artificial trees should be discarded properly when they wear out.

"We shouldn't just concentrate on it during the holiday season. We should be recycling every day. Our young people need to be taught to recycle and we do that to save our landfill space," said Judy Bowles.

Bowles says cardboard boxes should be broken down and taken to one of the three recycling sites on Thornton drive, downtown Albany or on Meredyth Drive.
