MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) -

Many of us overspend when buying presents for family and friends on Christmas. But it can be difficult to get rid of that debt.

Some South Georgians tell us they make sure they don't go deep in debt during the holidays.

Moultrie resident Dorothy Sharp says Christmas is not just about presents, and she's learned how to budget so she's not broke when the New year comes around.

"I don't like being broke on the New year, so I learned to be conservative, and that Christmas is only just one day, but to me Christmas is everyday, and whatever I want to buy for a person, I buy it for them. I don't just wait till Christmas to do it."

Sharp says the most important thing is being with family and showing love to each other.
