ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany Police continue to follow leads in a shocking murder as the victim's mother plans his funeral.   This Christmas was a somber one for Mary Spurlock, who had to spend it without her son, Jamey.

Mary Spurlock never imagined she'd have to bury her son.     While no arrests have been made yet, she believes justice will be served.

"It's just heartbreaking to me.  I never thought I'd have to bury my son. It was suppose to be the other way around," she said through tears.

Jamey Spurlock was shot and killed Sunday night during an attempted robbery on a dirt road off Mobile Avenue.   Mary says her son never hurt anyone and is not a fighter. "I don't think he ever met a stranger.  He liked to talk.  He was just a happy go lucky person.  He had his own business.  He did plumbing and construction work and he's done that most all his life."

Jamey Spurlock's fiancee says he was with her son and had a flat tire when the shooting happened.  "He was my baby," sobbed Mary.  "He was the baby of the family.  I only have two sons and he was the youngest.  He was very dear to me even though I didn't get to see him a whole lot.  He knew he was my baby."

Now Mary has to bury her baby, and the Spurlock family is asking for donations to give him a proper burial. "This time of year I didn't expect this expense.  And we don't have a lot.  My husband and I are both disabled.  So we do need some help."

And as she plans his funeral, she's praying someone saw something that night that could help investigators. "I just want them to come forward. I want the truth to come out.  I want justice for Jamey.  It needs to be done because he didn't deserve what he went through.  He didn't deserve that."

  • To donate to the Spurlock's send money to:
    9715 Old Georgia Highway 3
    Baconton, GA
  • Or  via PayPal to Robbie Spurlock

Albany Police are following leads, but have no suspects at this time.

If you have any information that could help investigators catch the killers,  call crime stoppers at 436-TIPS.
