Kidnapping arrests details released

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

The Chamblee Police Department issued a news release outlining the details of the abduction of a woman and her daughter which prompted a state-wide Amber Alert Monday.

The men who took Isabel Godinez Lopez and her five year old daughter Joselyn Michele Coc were caught in Lowndes County, and are both in the Lowndes County jail. Police say that the father of the child took the pair with the help of another man.

Here is the news release from the Chamblee Police Department-

On December 23, 2013, at approximately 11:50 a.m. Isabel Godinez Lopez and her five year old daughter Joselyn Michele Coc were abducted from their residence at 13 Clairview Drive, Chamblee, GA by her ex-boyfriend, and the father of Joselyn,  Luis Coc Reyes.

Ms. Lopez has been separated from Luis for approximately two years and left the Hollywood, Florida area to get away from him due to a history of threats and domestic violence.  He was accompanied during the abduction by a second subject, also a Hispanic male.

Ms. Lopez called her current boyfriend, Joel Godinez Lopez, from the bathroom of restaurant they stopped at to tell him what had occurred and asked him to alert authorities.   She told him she was afraid for their safety and that Luis was taking them back to Florida.  She described the red/burgundy Ford Ranger displaying Florida tags that they were traveling in and said she was somewhere on I-75 South.

An Amber alert was issued through the GBI and members of the FBI Violent Crimes task force also responded to assist in the investigation.  The Hollywood, Florida police department also provided investigative support.  The vehicle was spotted approximately thirteen miles before the Florida State Line by TFC Brian Bass #406 of the Georgia State Patrol.

He was able to stop the vehicle and arrested Luis Coc Reyes and a co-defendant Porfirio Alvarez without incident.  They are both in custody in Lowndes County facing charges of Kidnapping.

Ms. Lopez and her daughter were recovered safely with no injuries.  The Chamblee Police Department would like to thank all the agencies that assisted in this investigation and would especially like to commend TFC Bass for his dedication to duty.
