ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Lots of South Georgians are traveling this weekend for a long Christmas Holiday with family out of town. Police warn crooks could be taking advantage of you being away from home.

Friday Albany Police Gang Unit officers showed these thousands of dollars worth of stolen items they recovered from a gang burglary ring. Four Blood gang members were arrested. Investigators say they were breaking into homes across both the city and the county, taking anything of value. From guns to TV's, electronics, cameras, phones, even wrapped Christmas Presents.

Tonight police urge you, if you are going out of town, to ask trusted neighbors and friends to watch your home while you are gone. If you will be home, keep your own street safe.

"Look out for your neighbors," said Dougherty County Police Lt. Chad Kirkpatrick. "If you know your neighbor is out of town, if you can keep a check on the property. If you see someone suspicious over there snooping around, call the police. That's what we get paid to do, is go out and check things out. If you have an alarm system that's great. Surveillance is great as well."

Police say Christmas crooks will be watching to see if families are gone out of town for the holidays, and that is their invitation to go to work ripping you off. Take the time to guard your property before you leave.
