VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

With this weekend being the last weekend before Christmas, local businesses in Valdosta are looking forward to a being busy.

109 Central in downtown Valdosta is one of these businesses.

"Being an upper end boutique, I count on my guys and they don't show up until the last minute," said Jamie Pitts, owner of 109 Central.

"Therefore, I'm hoping we're gonna' pick up a great deal because [guys are] going to come in and get what they need to get now," Pitts said.

Pitts also said she's already noticed an increase in business the last couple of days, pointing out that this increase is critical for her business.

"January slows down to nothing," said Pitts, "and if you don't have some money left over from December, it's kind of hard to pay the bills."

Compared to last year, Pitts said the increase these last few days has been about the same as the increase last year, but it's nowhere near what it was six years ago before the housing market collapsed.
