ASHEVILLE, NC (FOX Carolina) -

Asheville police say they charged a man after shots were fired at officers in the Shiloh area on Thursday afternoon.

Dave Romick of the Asheville Police Department said at 12:30 p.m. two officers were serving a warrant near Shiloh Road and Brooklyn Road when several shots were fired at them from a distance.

Romick said the officers then dove for cover and called for backup. Officers set up a perimeter and started a manhunt for the suspect. One business in the area was reportedly put on lockdown during the incident.

At about 3 p.m. a person of interest was taken into custody and brought to the police station for questioning, according to Romick.

Kewan Marquis Shade of Asheville is charged with five counts of assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to kill.  He is also charged with two counts of assault with a firearm on law enforcement.

Shade is being held in jail on a $350,000 secure bond.

He said no injuries were reported after the shooting.
