Shriners dedicate a new Silent Messenger monument

Posted: Updated:

Shriners dedicated a new Silent Messenger monument outside the Hasan Temple in Albany Wednesday afternoon.

Many shriners temples have these monuments, but there's never been one in Albany. The Skalla family changed that.

"It's a great honor, because everywhere the public sees this statue they know the shriners are at work, it symbolizes what we do for cripple and burden children," said Bill Willingham, Chief Rabbam.

The statue is modeled after a Shriner who noticed a disabled child missing out on the fun at a picnic in Indiana back in the 70's. He picked up the boy and carried him around so he could enjoy all the activities.
