NEW ALBANY, IN (WAVE) - Convicted murderer William Clyde Gibson will be tried next summer and fall for two separate murders, a judge ruled Wednesday in Floyd County Superior Court.

During the hearing, Judge Susan Orth set a new trial date of June 2, 2014 for the murder of Stephanie Kirk, a 35-year-old Charlestown woman whose body was found in Gibson's backyard nearly a week after the remains of Christine Whitis, 75, were discovered in Gibson's New Albany home in April 2012.

In November, Gibson was sentenced to death following his conviction for Whitis' murder.

Orth set an October 27, 2014 trial date for the murder of 45-year-old Karen Hodella. Her body was found in the Ohio River in 2003.

Prosecutors have said they will pursue the death penalty in the Kirk case.

During Wednesday's hearing Gibson waived his request for a speedy trial.

Both trials had been scheduled on the same day in January, but Gibson's attorneys entered a motion to continue and separate them.
