Albany City Commission changes an ordinance

Albany City Commissioners Tuesday night changed an ordinance that could have prevented new restaurants from opening in parts of the city. The law restricts the number of alcohol licenses the city can issue in each ward.

Tuesday night commissioners increased that maximum number to 16 and removed restaurants from the rule. It now only applies to bars.

"It gives us an opportunity to encourage more restaurants, I would hate for us to be getting a new restaurant in town, and tell them they couldn't serve liquor or beer in their establishment," said Mayor Dorothy Hubbard.

The new ordinance goes into effect immediately.
