Goobers were good in 2013

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Peanut farmers get some good news about this year's crop. It was the second largest in the state's history.

 Last year was the highest yield so far. Farmers averaged 3,800 pounds per acre in 2013.

The Executive Director of the Georgia Peanut Commission says 2014 looks to be another good year.

"We really seem to be in a pretty good situation right now to move forward into this 14 crop. The farmers are already out working in the field. They're cutting under the stubble of other crops," said Don Koehler.

Peanut prices are expected to remain stable. The Commission expects less crop to be planted in 2014 because the current surplus.
