UPS offers gift wrapping for mail drop offs
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
The busiest time for mailing your holiday gifts is today. The U-S Postal Service says millions of letters and packages are expected to be processed. UPS, FedEx and other delivery companies will be wide open as well.
Around 8 o'clock Monday morning crowds will be pouring in at one UPS store in Albany, many of them eager to send off gifts to their loved ones just in time for the holidays.
"People lined up, packages everywhere, Christmas presents all over counter."
JT Fellows has been with UPS for almost two years and has seen how busy the store can get with waves of customers walking in every hour.
"I guess it's a little closer to Christmas time but I try to tell folks not to really wait around, try to come in as early as possible and get their things packed and shipped out," Fellows said.
That's to avoid paying extra fees, the longer you wait the less likely your package will make its destination on time.
"So, say there's like a big rush like there is now," Fellow continues. "Packages coming in, there's an estimated date that pops in the computer but that's not the guaranteed delivery date, it could be a day or so later."
Fellows says air packages and three day shipments are the only services that guarantees its delivery date. He feels the best way to avoid the holiday headache is to plan ahead.
During the holiday season, UPS will manage over 69 million tracking requests on its peak tracking day which will be Tuesday.
