Waycross firefighter killed while battling house fire

WAYCROSS, GA (WALB) -

Waycross Firefighter  Lt. Jeff Little was killed while on duty and responding to a house fire just after midnight early Sunday morning.

Officials with the Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire commission say the fire happened at a home in the 1000 block of Isabella St. in Waycross.

While battling the blaze, Lt. Little got trapped inside the home. Other firefighters were able to pull him out of the home and administer CPR. Little was then transported to the Mayo Clinic Health System in Waycross where he was pronounced dead.

Commissioner Ralph Hudgens sends his condolences out to the family.  Hudgens says the Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire commission is also offering a reward leading to an arrest and information about the fire.  Fire officials say the fire has been ruled an arson, and because of that  they're offering a reward for information leading to an arrest of up to $10,000.

Fire officials say under the Georgia fire statue its considered murder when a firefighter is killed in the line of duty while fighting a fire that's been deemed arson.

Anyone one with information can call the Georgia Arson Hotline at 800- 282-5804.
