ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Hundreds of people gathered at the Albany Civic Center Saturday for Albany State University's fall commencement ceremony.

The hard work of more than 300 Albany State University students has paid off.

"Today I'll be getting my bachelor's of science in Middle Grade Education. So I spent 4 years at Albany State University, and been an involved student. And it's definitely prepared me for the work world," said Clarence Washington.

Clarence Washington was the first name called for undergraduate students.

"The journey was definitely filled with a lot of late night papers, but there was a lot of assistance there from supportive faculty and staff. So the journey was excellent," said Washington.

Regent Larry Ellis of the University System of Georgia was today's commencement speaker. He encouraged students to give back to the community as they begin their new journey.

For Clarence Washington, his journey includes starting graduate school.

"Well I'm actually starting graduate school in January to start my masters in school counseling so I'm excited for that and I'm thankful for the foundation I received here to be able to do that," said Washington.

Students obtained degrees in Criminal Justice, Early Childhood development and Computer Science.

About 335 students graduated with Bachelors and Masters degrees.
