RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

The Richmond Police Department confirms a homicide investigation was launched after a man was found dead early Saturday morning.

According to police, at approximately 12:48 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 2000 block of Second Avenue for a report of shots fired. Once on scene, officers found a young male, unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim, described only as a black male in his early 20's, was found in the side yard of a house in that block of Second Avenue. He was transported to VCU Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
