ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Girls Inc were able to taste some of their hard work today.

South West Georgia projects partnered with girls inc back in October to plant lettuce cabbage and collards. The kids had weekly education sessions about the importance of healthy eating. They were able to see the whole process of how to take care of the produce.

A spokes person from South West Georgia Projects says "Nutrition education is important as we know obesity rates are rising especially down here in south Georgia so we want to combat that by providing education to these girls."

The girls harvested the lettuce and will see to the continued care of their other produce.
