RICHMOND, VA (WWBT) -

If you plan to buy gift cards this holiday season, you are not alone. Experts say 80 percent of us will, but did you know many retailers are offering extra savings when you buy from them?

This is the newest trend in buying gift cards, and a bunch of stores around here are offering bonuses when you buy gift cards from them. Whether you choose to bulk up your gift or keep it for yourself, here's where you can save.

$25 cards are a common denomination for gifts. Several restaurant will give you a $5 bonus card when you buy one. This is happening at Famous Daves, Longhorn Steakhouse, O'Charleys, Red Robin and Red Lobster. Ruby Tuesday is offering this as well, but if you buy a $50 card, the bonus is boosted to $15.

The bigger the amount, the more you can score. Applebee's, Chili's, Olive Garden and TGIFridays all have deals where you spend $50 and get $10 in extra rewards.

The most popular offer is restaurants kicking back $20 bonus cards when you buy $100 worth of gift cards. This payback is good at Outback Steakhouse, Bonefish, Carraba's and Brio. You can also get this deal at PF Changs, Morton's, Maggiano's and California Pizza Kitchen.

Starting Friday, Kroger has daily discounts that will knock a few bucks off certain gift cards. Each day, you can load a different deal onto your Kroger card and the price will come off automatically at checkout.

Food Lion gives you $5 off your next order when you spend $50 on 10 select gift cards. Spend $100, you'll get $15. The offer ends next Tuesday.
