Dawson Police Chief Charlie Whitehead says his department will offer some special protection for Mayor Christopher Wright, but for security reasons, he won't go into details.
Tonight, the Dawson City Council declined to take up the issue of special protection for Wright who was shot six times in an ambush in his home on Halloween night. Last month, the council voted not to offer him 24 hour security, citing concerns over the cost.
At tonight's meeting, Wright's lawyer asked the council to reconsider. They did not take a new vote, but Chief Whitehead told us he would take some measures to keep the mayor safe.
Wright remains in hiding. No one has been arrested in the shooting. We'll have much more on this story on WALB News 10 at 11:00.
