ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Officers from law enforcement agencies in Albany and Dougherty County were recognized Wednesday for their commitment to keeping the community safe.

Dougherty County District Attorney Greg Edwards organized the first ever appreciation dinner, and handed out about a dozen awards to officers who showed exemplary work this year.

"The men and woman that are here tonight, for the most part, are the men and women that put their lives on the line everyday for you and I to live in a nice house and a warm bed," says Dougherty County Sheriff Kevin Sproul.

"We think they need every bit of encouragement to continue to do the things they do to protect us and help us live a good life in our community," says Dougherty County District Attorney Gregory Edwards.

  • State Agency Agent of the Year: Stripling Luke 
  • ADDU/Gang Task Force Agent of the Year: Marc Kjellin
  • DA's Office Investigator of the Year: Makeba Wright
  • School/University/College Officer of the Year: Dera Salter
  • Probation Officer of the Year: Nick Perry
  • Law Enforcement Executive of the Year : Bill Berry
