Tre Jackson was the field general for the Lowndes Viking defense during his career.
He even earned the nickname "Stonewall."
Now, "Stonewall" leaves to join a new army.
Jackson signed his NLI to play at Georgia Tech Wednesday in front of family, friends, and teammates.
"It's such a relief to have this day come, and to be able to sign my name on that dotted line," Jackson says, smiling. "All the sweat, blood, and tears I poured out throughout these 18 years, and it means everything to have this day come."
The senior linebacker will enroll early at Tech, beginning class the first week of January.
He says he can't wait to get to Atlanta and begin building relationships with his new teammates.
Jackson, the Region 1-AAAAAA Defensive Player of the Year, says he expects to stay at linebacker with the Yellow Jackets, but is willing to do anything to help the team win.
"They said I could play either [middle, strong, or weakside linebacker]. They said they want me to focus more on [middle], because I'm good at running between the tackles and from sideline to sideline," he says. "I'm going to do whatever they want me to. If they move me, I'm going to do whatever I can to benefit the team."
Jackson says he plans to major in biology at Tech. He isn't sure if he'll redshirt his freshman season.
