South Albany man escapes flying bullets

Jones said he was hit in the head with a pistol Jones said he was hit in the head with a pistol
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Lucky may be an understatement for Reginald Jones' escape from possible death on McArthur Street Tuesday night.

He tells WALB's Jim Wallace that he had just come home from Christmas shopping when two armed men approached him and demanded his wallet. One of the bandits hit him in the head with a pistol. But he was soon dodging bullets.

Terrified, he took out his wallet and threw it, then turned to run away. As he ran, he heard multiple pistol shots, and the bullets whiz past him.

Jones says it's a miracle he wasn't shot, because he thinks the two men emptied their pistols, and houses and cars in the neighborhood were hit by bullets. Thankfully, no one in the neighborhood was.

Jones said he called 911, and Albany Police were on the scene quickly. He thinks he saw officers take one man into custody.

The men got the $17 in cash that Jones had in his wallet. He is at the Department of Driver Safety today applying for a new drivers license.
