Dougherty grad rate far below state average

ATLANTA, GA (WALB) -

Figures released today by the Superintendent of Georgia schools indicates improvement across the state in terms of students who graduate high school.  But for Dougherty County schools, the results are disappointing.

The superintendents says the high school graduation rate increased almost two percentage points over the previous year – from 69.7 percent in 2012 to 71.5 percent in 2013 – and over four percentage points from 2011 (67.5 percent).

This is the third year Georgia has calculated the graduation rate using the adjusted cohort rate formula.

Westover leads the pack in Albany, with a rate over 78%, but the rates for the other schools, especially Dougherty High, drag local rates 11 points under the state average.
