Neighbors give input on huge Albany revitalization plan

Posted: Updated:

People who live in and around McIntosh Homes gave their input Tuesday evening on a $90 million plan to revitalize their neighborhood into a community called The Oaks at North Intown.

The Albany Housing Authority plans to submit a detailed application next fall for a federal Choice Neighborhood Grant that could pump tens of millions of dollars into the project.

AHA is now working with Hunt Companies and Boulevard Group on the plan.

Boulevard Group President James Brooks said "It's an annual grant, but it is very competitive. It's as much as $30 million, but they only give it to four different cities that apply, so it's very very competitive. So one of the things we are going to be doing is working with the housing authority over the next year to assess where we are."

The plan depends on support from the community. Leaders of local non-profit Mission change attended the forum to talk about their work with children in the area.
