Westover defensive tackle Trenton Thompson's newly-minted top prospect status makes his head coach proud.
"I'm very happy for him," said Westover head coach Octavia Jones. "I'm very blessed very proud to say that we have the No. 1 recruit in the whole country here at Westover High School."
Thompson credits his own hard work and the 25 seniors he played with at Westover this year which helped them secure the Patriots first ever Region title.
"Ain't nothing like the teammates you playing with," Thompson said. "I wish I could play one more year with them."
Graduating such a large senior class will only intensify the pressure on the 6-4, 285-pound defensive linemen.
"Now it's my time to my team on my shoulders like they did," Thompson said. "Now, next year its trying to get that championship, get that ring>
Thompson holds offers from Georgia, Florida State, Florida among others. The recruiting will only pick up with the new billing. Just last week, head coach Mark Richt made a stop at Westover High School and spoke over the intercom.
"The principal said the top dog is here," Thompson explained. "When he got off the intercom, everybody ran out. It felt great, just to know that he was here, you know 'dawgs are on top."
Thompson says he will wait until the late signing period to choose his college.
